A rainy night 3-1 win

Jorge De La Rosa's pitching line: 7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K; season ERA: 3.38
Esteban German's batting line: 4 AB, 1 R, 2 H, 3 RBI, 1 HR; season avg: .300

Sometimes that's all the description a game needs, isn't it?

POSTSCRIPT 1: Via Wrigleyville23, this is reason to start betting on the Royals. I'm big on the concept of regression to the mean, and if there's one area where it definitely applies, it's in gambling, where Vegas manipulates its lines to equalize the number of winning and losing bets every game. A team that goes on a losing streak in Vegas will turn it around sooner than later not because it's "due," as fans would say as justification for their loyalty, but because Vegas wants it that way.

Just don't bet the over/under in baseball, unless you enjoy donating money to the filthy rich. Or richly filthy, for that matter.

POSTSCRIPT 2: Occasionally I venture outside the world of Royals baseball. Here's an interesting article in yesterday's New York Times about racial bias among NBA referees, and one sentence to sum it up:
“Basically, it suggests that if you spray-painted one of your starters white, you’d win a few more games,” Mr. Wolfers said.
